You can read an early review here. It's very positive and non-spoilery.

GIBSON GIRL

Random doodle of the Gibson Girl, I was obsessed with the illustrations of her since I was a little girl. Fun to draw but nowhere near as good as Charles Dana.

By the way, I have also started a tumblr, if that's more your thing. It's just under my name: Joëlle Jones.

And don't forget, House of Night #1 went on sale today!

Comics Underground - happening tonight!

I will be part of the second Comics Underground reading event happening in Portland, OR, tonight. Come on out!

For those who can't be there, you can read this short questionnaire with me over on the Cosmic Treadmill site.

Comics Underground is a staged reading—only the performers read dialogue from their own comics, with images projected above them. Performers provide their own soundtracks, sound effects, live music—whatever they want, really. It’s in a bar, it’s pretty informal, and the last one featured extemporaneous guitar accompaniment and broken-window sound effects courtesy of a bottle scrounged from behind the bar.

Here’s a bit more info on this edition’s guests:

• Writer Jamie S. Rich and artists Joëlle Jones and Nicolas Hitori De collaborate on the Oni Press-released mean-teen-witch comic Spell Checkers. They’ll be reading from the new volume, and Rich will also present some autobiographical work.

• Writer Kelly Sue DeConnick has worked on a number of Marvel Comics titles, including the well-received Osborn miniseries. She’ll be presenting a comic from a recent anthology about New York venue CBGB, published by Boom! Studios.

• Artist Natalie Nourigat is a member of Periscope Studio and creator of Between Gears and Over the Surface. She’ll be reading some original autobiographical comics.

• Greg Rucka has written Stumptown, Whiteout, Queen & Country, The Punisher, and much more—as of right this moment, he hasn’t decided yet what he’ll be reading, but we’re pretty sure he’ll pull together something great.

Spell Checkers, vol. 2: Sons of a Preacher Man is being printed right now and it's hitting stores at the end of September. It's written by Jamie S. Rich, illustrated by Nicolas Hitori de, with flashbacks by myself. I also drew the cover, which was colored by Kimball Davis. Oni Press is publishing it.

Amazon has a short preview in their "Look Inside" area.

Give it a look, and order it from their site, or your local book seller or comic book shop.

VINTAGE AD PRINTS STILL FOR SALE

I have 9 complete sets of prints leftover from Comic Con, and I want to offer them on the blog first.

These are six prints, printed on nice photo paper, full color, and at a frameable 8" X 10" size.

They are numbered, and can be signed on request; however, the sets are not all matching numbers. We tried to put together as many matching ones in each set as possible, but I think only one remaining is a full run.

The price of each set is $100 plus $6 for postage/fees, etc.

If you are interested, e-mail us at joellejonesart[a]gmail[dot]com

Thanks for this photo go to Steve Sunu, who already has them hanging on his wall!

Also, check out who made the cover of the Portland Mercury this week. And while you're there, read the article by Sarah Mirk about Portland folks at Comic Con!

SDCC EXCLUSIVE: VINTAGE AD PRINTS

I didn't want to make an announcement until they were done, but I will have a limited run of 8" X 10" glossy prints of all six of my vintage ad parodies for sale at Comic Con.

Each print is limited to 25 only, hand numbered.

We are still debating price, so it is subject to change, but currently we are thinking $20 for each individual print, the whole set for $100.

Get them from me at Artist's Alley table #HH13. For my full schedule, go here.

If there are any leftover, I will set up online sales, but until then, I am only selling them at the show on a first-come, first-served basis.

Comic Con is only a day away. See you all there!

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON - PREBOOK SKETCHES!

Hey, everyone. Comic Con is two weeks away! I will be a special guest at the show this year. This means I'll have a table assigned to me (Artist Alley HH-13), some panels, etc., and that my time at the show will be irregular. This may make it even more important for folks to order sketches ahead. I only have 5 in my queue so far, so there is room.

Sketches: If you want a sketch, set it up through Jamie at golightly[a]gmail[dot]com. He will keep the master list. My convention prices are:

* $40 for black and white, one character - $10 each additional character
* $80 color - $20 each additional character

I will be there all five days, Wednesday through Sunday. I can take commissions and sketch in books at the show, but that will be depending on the queue of any given day.

Other Merchandise: I will also have some books to sell and am working on some goodies. I am hoping to have some prints featuring the recent fake ads I have been doing; depending on how the con goes, we will sell leftovers online. I am also looking into postcard sets.

Original Art: I'll also try to bring some pages, but if there is something you want specifically, it might be good to e-mail ahead to make sure.

Appearances: The full event schedule has not been posted yet, but I am on panels both Saturday and Sunday.

* Saturday, 2:30-3:30 pm: "The Art of the Graphic Novel" with Chester Brown, Craig Thompson, and others in Room 24ABC
* Sunday, 2-3:00 pm: "Spotlight on Joëlle Jones," hosted by Erik Henriksen and featuring Jamie S. Rich in Room 4, followed by a signing in Autograph Area 7 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm

Of course, check the official schedule when it's out to make sure none of this changed. I will also post further updates, including the location of my regular table [update: Artist Alley HH-13) and any scheduled Oni signings to help people find me. Jamie's e-mail will also be good for getting in touch, as he will be checking it more regularly than I will once we are there.

If you click on the preview image here, it will take you to the final, full-colored edition.

This version is the pencil rough:

This drawing is for sale for $125 plus $10 for postage. Please e-mail if interested, joellejonesart[a]gmail[dot]com. The image is on 11" X 17" paper, but please note the physical version does not have the background colors. The pattern and the texture on the wall were added digitally, while the figures and the other scenery were colored by hand.
