DR. HORRIBLE - for sale and for charity

Republished 12/7/09 - Mercury now offering shipping on the package with my art. Details here

Hey, everyone. The Dr. Horrible comic book is out and has been getting good reviews. The most recent is from Erik Henriksen, who in addition to being a comics writer himself (anyone see his Warriors: Jailbreak comic last summer?), is an editor and writer at the Portland Mercury. It just so happens that the Merc is running a charity auction and they are auctioning off a packet of stuff from Dark Horse that includes the art for page 6 of the comic.

Check out the Dr. Horrible page 6 auction here! Though it says no shipping, they will send the items for an extra $25.

One of my other publishers, Oni Press, is also part of a package that includes every comic they'll publish in 2010, which one assumes will include Spell Checkers! Bid here.

For those who want to buy pages from Dr. Horrible, we still have some left. To determine which page is the one you want, start counting from page 1, and skip ads. If you want to be sure, a brief description when you e-mail joellejonesart[a]gmail.com will make sure we know we are talking about the right page.

Price & Availablity - Dr. Horrible

$80 - pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 8
$90 - pages 15, 19, 20
$100 - pages 5, 13, 16, 24
$110 - pages 21, 23
$125 - pages 9, 17, 22

All art is approximately 11 X 17, black-and-white, no lettering.

Dark Horse NOIR - art for sale

My Etsy shop has just been updated with the four illustrations from the Noir anthology that Dark Horse put out last week.

You can buy any of the pieces here.

The anthology looks fantastic, with lots of great stories in it. Here are more details from the Dark Horse page. I did drawings to go with a prose story by Ken Lizzi.

MADAME XANADU #19 in January

Comic Book Resources has the early release of DC's January 2010 solicitations before the Diamond catalogue comes out in a week or two. This includes Madame Xanadu #19, the first of my two-month stint as penciller on the title.

Amy Reed Hadley and Richard Friend are doing the covers to keep continuity for the full story arc. #19 and #20 are an interlude back in time that reflects on the larger story.

MADAME XANADU #19
Written by Matt Wagner
Art by Joëlle Jones & David Hahn
Cover by Amy Reeder Hadley & Richard Friend
After the shocking conclusion to the previous issue, a 2-part story by guest artist Joëlle Jones begins a storybook look back at Madame Xanadu’s earliest days in ancient, pastoral Britain. The Elder Folk confront the coming of mortal man, and the rivalry between two ageless sisters takes root.

UPDATE: MORE FOR SALE & A LITTLE HORRIBLE

Hey, all.

Busy times around here. Dr. Horrible is all done, and pencils for Madame Xanadu are well under way. Hence the lack of updates. It's all about the work these days.

In the meantime, Jamie has updated the side bar with more purchasing info. First, the art and commissions price list now includes all available pages for You Have Killed Me. Even the cover. [Edit: Never mind. The cover sold!]

We have also started a gallery at Comic Art Fans where you can look at the pages and see the prices. A bunch of pieces are already up, including pages from all the graphic novels and from the Popgun stories, same prices as they are in the sidebar pdf. Click on the link to the right, or just click here to see it. This gallery will primarily be used to display interior art, while the Etsy store will be more for single illustrations, etc.

Speaking of CAF, browsing around the "Joelle Jones" tag, this Dr. Horrible piece from Comic Con popped up:

We will also be around for some of the Wednesday night preview night, depending on how quickly we can get from airport to hotel and get our badges, etc.

We likely won't be bringing original art, instead we will travel with notebooks featuring copies of pages Joëlle has for sale that we will ship out when we get home. Joëlle will be sketching at the show, and she will also be debuting her Seven Deadly Sins sketchbook.

12 REASONS WHY I LOVE HER/BLANKETS - The Crossover

This was commissioned as a gift for someone whose favorite comics are 12 Reason Why I Love Her and Blankets. The basic concept was Gwen and Evan from 12 Reasons reading Craig Thompson's book. The final piece ends up using props from Blankets as background, too.

To go with the drawing, we also included signed copies of both books, and Craig drew in the Blankets:

It was tempting to forge his signature in a different copy and keep this one!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Comic Noir: The Art of Joëlle Jones
The Art Institute of Portland Gallery presents a first look at Jones’ newest work

May 26, 2009—
For the month of June, the Art Institute of Portland Gallery is hosting Portland comic book artist Joëlle Jones and writer Jamie S. Rich in a unique first look at their collaborated novel You Have Killed Me, due this summer from Oni Press. On view will be excerpts and original pages from the book, as well at the opportunity to speak to the artist and writer about the new book and the creative process behind it.

Jones and Rich first collaborated on the acclaimed comic book 12 Reasons Why I Love Her, and have since shown up as a team in the pages of Popgun, Portland Noir, and Madman Atomic Comics. Jones also did the cover and interior illustrations for Rich's novel Have You Seen the Horizon Lately?

Separately, they have multiple creative works between them. Jones has contributed to the long-running comic series Fables at DC/Vertigo, and she drew the Minx young-adult graphic novel Token, written by Alisa Kwitney. Rich has published four prose novels, including Cut My Hair, I Was Someone Dead, and The Everlasting, and wrote the comics series Love the Way You Love, illustrated by Marc Ellerby. He served as the editor-in-chief at Oni Press from 1999 until 2004 and has also worked on the editorial staff at Dark Horse Comics.

The June gallery show, titled “Comic Noir: The Art of Joëlle Jones,” will debut on First Thursday with an artist reception from 6-8 p.m. at the College.

Daily gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday to Thursday; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Friday; and 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday. Exhibit runs through June 27.

MORE ART FOR SALE

This is just a reminder that there are still plenty of original art pages for sale from the books I have worked on. In the sidebar to your right, you will find a downloadable pdf of the pages and prices, as well as details on my commission prices. Right now is a particularly good time for me to sell art, as I am saving up to attend Comic Con. Like last time, too, I will take orders before the show for pieces I can work on at home and deliver to you there.

In addition to the art on the list right now, the next time we update it, the list will include the following, which have just become available:

* Portland Noir story - pages 1, 2, and 5-13 are all $50 each.

* Popgun volume 3 story, "The Jailhouse Swing" - pages 2-8, $100 each

The pages are black-and-white, no lettering.

Madman Atomic Comics #16 and You Have Killed Me pages will go on sale when the books do, so if you pick up the comics and see something you like, feel free to e-mail ahead.

Please e-mail regarding purchase to joellejonesart[at]gmail.com so we can confirm availability of the art before settign up payment. (Most likely you'll end up talking to Jamie; sorry, that's the way it goes.)
